Ethel Schmidt was born October 22nd 1930 to Albert Frederick Koechert and Alice Amelia Koechet. She grew up on the family farm in Clay county. Ethel Graduated from Everly high school in 1948. She went on to nurses training at Methodist Hospital in Sioux City IA and was a Surgical Nurse for 6 years and an office nurse for 7 years. Ethel retired in 1984. She was united in marriage to Marvin Henry Schmidt August 14th 1954. Together they raised four children. Ethel was a wonderful, special and loved person. She was a talented creative soul. She made over 300 beautiful teddy bears for family and friends. She was a prolific decorative painter. She made her own greeting cards by Ethel. She was a great cook and loved to travel. Family was very important to her.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband Marvin Schmidt, her Children, Carol and the late Dave Bagen, David and Beth Schmidt, Lois and Bill Wilson, and Karen Kriz. She delighted in her 9 grandchildren, Matt and Carolyn Wilson, Debra Wilson, Emily and Nick Beck, Brent Bagen and Ciarra Bischoff, Angie Pape, Bob Schmidt, Brian Schmidt, Jason and Sara Kriz, Andrea and Amy Hood, and her 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Alice Koechert, her siblings Orville Koechert and Hellen Mielke.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at St. Luke nursing home for their wonderful care.
