Eugena Mae Watson

July 1, 1917 — March 28, 2010

Eugena Mae Watson, the daughter of Errol and Nellie (Hammond) Dillon was born July 1, 1917 in Lamberton, MN. At a very young age she moved with her family to Union, Iowa where she received her early education, graduating from high school there in 1935. She attended Ellsworth Junior College and Buena Vista College to earn her BA. After several years of teaching in Knoxville and Keokuk, she moved to Spencer in 1943 to teach at North School Elementary. On November 23, 1949 she married Robert Sterling Watson. In 1954 they moved to Greenville where she taught fifth and first grades at Greenville-Rossie and Clay Central until 1982 retiring from teaching after 44 years. She was an active and dedicated member of the Greenville Congregational Church where she served as Treasurer, Organist, Pianist, Sunday school youth teacher, and adult Bible Study teacher. Eugena passed away Sunday March 28 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1981, two brothers and two sisters, and most recently, her only great grandson, Riley Sterling Watson. She is survived and will be forever dearly remembered by a son, Ross and his wife, Ann of Sac City, a grandson, (Robert) Shawn and wife Joy Watson of Westminster, CO, a granddaughter, Beth Watson of Coralville; one brother Lewis; two sisters Patricia and Marjorie; other relatives and an uncountable number of former students and friends. At her request a private family service will be held at a later date.
