Eugene “Gene” Erwin Cullen was born in Rockwell City, Iowa to James W. and Agnus (Schossow) Cullen on May 30, 1937. He often joked that his birthday was a national holiday because it fell on the traditional Memorial Day. His early education was in rural schools until he and his family moved to Spencer in 1950. After graduating from Spencer High School in 1955, he served in the Air Force.
On September 15, 1957, he married Mary Milton, and they spent nine years in different locations with the military before moving back to the Spencer area. “Gene” loved life, family, people, building things, and selling automobiles. He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Mary of Primghar, IA., daughter Shawneen (Hamish) Mitchell, of Azusa, CA., son Neil Cullen of Sioux City, IA., brother James L. (Mike) Cullen of Spencer, IA, sister Ardella (Russ) Hein of Fort Dodge, IA., sister-in-laws Janet Milton of Glendale Hts. IL., and Jody Milton of Bloomington, MN. James W. and Agnes Cullen preceded him into Eternity.
