Eva Leonard

Eva Blanche Leonard, the daughter of John and Blanche (Bowles) Albert, was born on December 30, 1909, in Primghar, Iowa. She attended school in Primghar and after her graduation there, she taught country school until she married Samuel H. Leonard on February 22, 1929. Following their marriage, the couple farmed east of Primghar. She was a full working partner with her husband for many years. In 1956 they moved to a farm near Sutherland where she continued to live until she retired to the Sutherland Care Center in 2007. She was a longtime Farm Bureau participant and continued to be a member of the Friendship Medallion Club until it discontinued. She was one of the original members of the Town & Country Saddle Club. She had a lifelong love of riding and enjoying her horses. There was nothing that pleased her more than helping her grandchildren and their friends enjoy learning to ride and to appreciate horses. She also appreciated music and enjoyed singing with the family around the piano. She liked to travel and was able to go with family on many trips to different parts of the country. She was a member of the Sutherland Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary of Sutherland. Eva passed away on December 8, 2013, at the Sutherland Care Center at the age of 103. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in 1979. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Betty and Lou Nieman of Park Rapids, MN, Linn and Elaine Leonard of Sutherland, IA, John and Linda Leonard of Sutherland, IA and Judi and Tom Lorenz of Spencer, IA; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 3 great -great grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Petersen of Spencer, IA; other relatives and friends.
