Evabelle Janet Muilenburg, the daughter of Loren and Evabelle (Ketelsen) Phelps, was born on August 6, 1942 in Spencer, Iowa. She received her early education in Royal and spent her early years there and was raised by her grandmothers' Phelps and Ketelsen.
In the February of 1962, Jan married John Serr in Royal. Jan worked at various jobs, as a waitress, bartender and retail. She also worked at the Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn, and did some factory work. She lived in the communities of Royal, Primghar, Sanborn, Spencer and most recently, Fredericksburg. In August of 1974, she married Gary Muilenburg in Sioux Falls, SD.
Jan enjoyed going to the casino, bowling, cross stitching, riding motorcycle and she played softball into her early 50's. The most important thing to Jan was spending time with her family and friends. She befriended everyone and was always there to lend a helping hand and offer advice if you needed it.
She passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the Allen Hospital in Waterloo, IA at the age of 74. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Frank Phelps; her stepmother, Ruby Marble and many other relatives.
Left to cherish her memory are her three sons: Don Serr (Tina) of Waseca, MN, Vic Serr (Deb Klein) of Sanborn, IA and Rod Muilenburg (Rick Larson) of Fredericksburg, IA; two daughters: Tammy Wolff (Harvey) of Emmetsburg, IA and Deanna Tapia of Spencer, IA; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; three brothers: John Phelps of Sioux Rapids, IA, Ronny Phelps (Maureen) of Apopka, FL and Denny Phelps (Joanne) Schaller, IA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 21, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her name.
