Evaughn Shaffer

July 25, 1925 — September 20, 2015

Evaughn Shaffer, daughter of John Carl and Bernice Ellen Loeser, was born on July 25, 1925 in Lexington, Texas. She spent her childhood years on the family farm outside Lexington, where she graduated from high school in 1942. She later attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, TX where she graduated in 1945. After college, Evaughn worked at Hormel Company in Dallas, TX and it is there she met and married her husband, Thomas Dale Shaffer, on March 15, 1947. They returned to Spencer where Tom was associated with the Northwest Ice Cream Company and later Hofsommer-Shaffer Insurance Company. Their five children were born and raised in Spencer. Evaughn was a very active member of the community involved in such organizations as the Spencer YMCA, 'Save the Park' in Arnolds Park, the Lakeville Club and the Parker Historical Society. She was an avid sports lover and could usually be found playing volleyball at the YMCA, golf, tennis or bowling on her Spencer bowling league. Evaughn spent her summers at the family cabin in Okoboji where she enjoyed family, friends, blue water and the beautiful Okoboji sunsets. Evaughn passed away on September 20, 2015 at the age of 90.
