Evelyn Lucille Clarken, the daughter of Ernest Lynn and Hazel Chrystal Pulley Brown, was born October 22, 1921 in Palmer, Iowa. She attended country school in Gilmore City, then on to Fonda and ending up in junior high in Fort Dodge, Iowa where she graduated in 1940.
She was united in marriage to Delmar LeRoy Clarken on May 4, 1940 in Dows, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived in Webster County, Franklin County, Dickinson County, Jackson County and then Clay County. Evelyn and Delmar had a special kind of love for 72 years, she was Delmar's right hand man on the farm. When she wasn't busy on the farm, she found time to read paper backs, crocheting, playing double solitaire before and after breakfast, working in the garden, canning, and baking goodies, the best cherry pie and beef roast ever. This could go on forever in the mentioning in every little thing she touched, listened to and mentored.
Evelyn passed away on June 7, 2012 at the Longhouse Residence in Spencer at the age of 90. She is preceded in death by her parents; her son James; brothers and sisters.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, Delmar of Spencer; two children: Thomas Clarken of Gillette Grove, IA and Diane Kroese (Richard) of Spirit Lake, IA; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Clarken of Salt Lake City, UT; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, June 11, 2012 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
