Evelyn Josephine Hugunin

Evelyn Josephine Hugunin, the daughter of James Knox and Katie Wells Houston Shields, was born June 28, 1920 in Peterson, Iowa. She was raised in the Dickens, Iowa area, where she received her education, graduating from Dickens High School in 1938. Evelyn married David Hugunin on January 9, 1942 in Jackson, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they farmed S.E. of Spencer, where she helped with the farming operation, raised her children and worked at Feldman's Department Store for many years. She retired in 1982. Evelyn enjoyed raising flowers, gardening and reading. Mrs. Hugunin passed away at Longhouse Residence in Spencer, Iowa on Friday, November 2, 2007 at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 1981; three brothers: Everet, Claron and Lowell Shields; three sisters: Hattie Schoening, Ruth West and Terry Shields. She is survived by two sons: Dave Hugunin of Spencer and Terry and his wife, Carol Hugunin of New York; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters: Treva Lannan of Sheridan, Wyoming and Wanda Peters of Seattle, WA; other relatives and friends.
