Evelyn Lucille Freeburg, the daughter of Lewis and Amy Johnson Capener, was born May 4, 1922, in Palo Alto County, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in the rural Ruthven area where she received her education, graduating from Lake Center High School. Later she spent two years studying music at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa.
Evelyn married Dale Pershing Freeburg on March 15, 1942, in Ruthven, Iowa. Following their marriage, they farmed south of Spencer until retiring in 1980. Evelyn was an active member of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, where she sang in and directed the choir. She was active in 4-H, serving as the County President. Evelyn got pleasure from playing bridge, sewing, catching fish, and being a member of the Hope Well Club. Sharing the cottage at Lake Okoboji with family and friends brought her great enjoyment.
On March 6, at the age of 85, Evelyn passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dale, and two brothers: Keith and Wendell Capener.
Survivors include her daughter, Sondra and her husband, Robert Brannon of Aurora, CO; a son, Marvin and his wife Laurie of Ames, IA; five grandchildren: Bob Meyer and wife Liz (son Travis) and Troy Meyer and wife Nichole (sons Jake and Owen) both of CO: Megan Caballero and husband Mike (sons Max, Gabe, and Ian), Max Freeburg and Greer Freeburg all of IA; a brother Doug Capener and his wife Pam of Dallas, TX; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Monday, March 10, 2008 at the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer.
