Everett Claus Frederick Sunkenberg

Everett C. F. Sunkenberg, passed away at the Banner Baywood Hospital in Mesa, Arizona, on Monday, May 7, 2012 at 10:30 am. Everett Clause Fredrick Sunkenberg was born August 30, 1913 in O'Brien County, Iowa, near Gaza to Ernest A. Sunkenberg and Rosa Louise (Steffens) Sunkenberg. His childhood days were spent in the Primghar area on his father's farm. He married Ruby Evaline Clapper. To this union were born two children, Janice and Allen. They moved to the Spencer area where Everett was employed for many years by Spencer Rendering Company. Everett married Joyce Story on June 29, 1964, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, Iowa. His children, Janice and Allen, attended. Everett was an avid bowler and golfer. He was a member and past president of the Spencer Eagles. In 1978 Everett and Joyce moved to Mesa, Arizona for health reasons. While in Arizona, Everett was involved in the Arizona Beautification Project and Senior Citizens Club in Kearney, Arizona. Everett enjoyed playing bingo at the Fort McDowell and at the American Legion Hall. He enjoyed playing poker with a special group of friends. Everett recently renewed and passed his driver's license and was very proud of that being 98 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother in law, Merlyn and Pauline Behmer, nephew Randy Behmer, his first wife, Ruby, his son Allen Sunkenberg, his daughter Janice Babb, his step daughter Kathy Podhajsky, and 3 brothers in law Emery (Jack), James and Clifford Booth. Left to cherish his memory are, his wife Joyce of 48 years, 2 sons in law Gene Babb of Omaha, Nebraska and Duane Podhajsky, of Tama, Iowa, his step son Russell Story and wife Carol of Clear Lake, Iowa, and brother in law LeRoy Booth and wife Rose of Spencer, Iowa. Everett leaves 14 grandchildren, 20 great grand children, 2 great great grand children, and many friends and relatives. All of us loved him dearly and will miss him very much.
SERVICES
Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at North Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Spencer.
