Everett Dale Amis

    Everett Dale Amis, the son of Farris and Anna (Swanson) Amis, was born September 26, 1929 on a farm near Greenville, IA.  Everett attended Greenville School and graduated from Greenville/Rossie in 1947. He spent his entire life on the family farm with the exception of 2 years when he served in the Army, becoming a Corporal and participating in the Korean War.

     Everett married Verlie Schenatzki of Truesdale in August of 1960.  A son, Jeff was welcomed to the family in 1961.  Everett loved the farm, having been taught well by his father, Farris Amis.  He loved to preserve the past: often recalling stories of friends and their families.  He especially liked antique cars and tractors.  Some of the tractors were restored family tractors.  He and his wife, Verlie participated in many parades.  He served as President of the Iowa Great Lakes Antique Car Club.  He was a member of the Northwest Iowa 2-Cylinder Club, serving on the board.  Everett was a member of the Greenville Congregational Church serving as chairman of the board and other official capacities.  He served on the Clay County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, the CD Farm Service Board, the Board of Magistrates, and the Clay County Fair Board.  The Clay County Fair was very special to him, serving on the board for over 30 years, 5 of which was as President.   He was Superintendent of the Cattle Dept. for many years and was pleased to be replaced by a good friend, Dr. Roger Larson.  In 2008, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his dedication and service to Iowa Fairs.  The award was presented to him by the Association of Iowa Fairs at its annual meeting.  In 2010, he received the Heritage Award on the national level by the International Association of Fairs recognizing his dedication and service to fairs.  This award was presented at the annual meeting in Las Vegas.

   Everett was a devoted husband, grandfather and friend. His honesty, integrity and friendliness were known to all he met. He could always seem to find good in anyone he met and strived to remember them on a first name basis. Everett and Verlie spent many quality times together especially with close friends and family. They supported each other in all life’s endeavors.

    He passed away at Northshire Residence in Spencer on Monday, July 30, 2018 at the age of 88.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Geraldine.

     Everett is survived by his wife, Verlie of Greenville; a son, Jeff and his wife, Teresa of Kansas City; two grandchildren: Mallory and Andrew; a sister, Darlene Prather and her husband, Virgil of Spencer in addition to several nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends.
