Evon "Cookie" Marie Loontjer, the daughter of Ewan and Ceceile (Birchard) Watrous, was born October 14, 1942, in Spencer, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Milford where she attended school and graduated from Milford High School. She then attended Commercial Extension School of Commerce in Omaha, NE.
On June 23, 1963, Evon was united in marriage to Ron Loontjer in Omaha, NE. They were married for 23 years. During her life, Evon lived in Council Bluffs and Milford before moving to Spencer in 1986. She was currently working as an administrative assistant for Iowa Workforce Development in Spencer.
Evon was a member of New Life Worship Center in Spencer. In her free time she liked to crochet, read her Bible, watch old movies, and collect Indian and angel motif. Most of all she loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Evon was a caring woman who opened her heart to others. Over the years she had fostered many children whom she considered to be a part of her own family.
On July 20, 2009, Evon passed away at her residence at the age of 66. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Karla Lind.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Joanie (Tarik) Houti of Spencer, IA, Becky (Scott) Allen of Spirit Lake, IA, Mel Loontjer of Sioux Rapids, IA; Mike and Ron Loontjer of Council Bluffs, IA; her former husband, Ronald Loontjer of Hebron, NE; step-parents, Mick and Karleen Noteboom of Milford, IA; 10 grandchildren; foster children: Janet Laubenthal and Tony Roth of Fort Pierre, SD, Tina (Aaron) Dowdy of Spencer, IA, Janine (Bill) Debates of Luverne, MN, and Jennifer (Randy) Umbreit of Laurens, IA; one brother, Mick Noteboom, Jr. of Champaign, IL; as well as other relatives and many friends.
