Franklin 'Merle' Yager, the son of Lee and Leda (Lawson) Yager, was born April 3, 1928 in Lake Park, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Lake Park, where he received his education at Excelsior Consolidated elementary and later graduated from Excelsior Consolidated High School. He continued his education at the University of Iowa for 1 year and later attended Buena Vista College for 3 years, completing his education. He moved to Spencer, Iowa in 1950 and worked as a produce manager for Council Oak Foods.
Merle married Lorraine Merrill on October 13, 1957 in Spencer. After their marriage, he worked as a shoe salesman at Brown's and Kenny Shoe Corporation. In 1978, he worked at Younker's as a custodian until 1990. He worked at Servicemaster from 1990 until his retirement in 1996. Merle was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
He passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorraine in 2014; one brother, Howard and two sisters: Ferne Sanders and Lola Belle Flint.
Merle is survived by two brothers: Melvin Yager of Bradenton, FL and his twin brother, Earle Yager of Idaho; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held 1:30 P.M., Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
