Fern Geneviene Heick Benner

Fern Genevieve Heick Benner, the daughter of John Peter and Alma Marion (Subcleff) Heick, was born December 3, 1921 in Peterson, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Peterson, where she received her education, graduating from Peterson High School in 1940. Fern married Arlin E. Hintz on October 17, 1942 in Clinton, Iowa. Throughout the years, Fern worked as an Assembly Test Operator for Cadillac Controls in Costa Mesa and Hemet, California for 35 years, until her retirement on September 15, 1981. Fern married Russell C. Benner on December 2, 1981 in Santa Ana, CA. Following their marriage, she was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Hemet, California, where she was very active and helped make the bulletins every week. She was blessed with many good friends and enjoyed helping others and being sensitive to other people's needs. She had most recently moved to Clarinda, Iowa and then Storm Lake, Iowa. She passed away at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at the age of 91. Fern was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell Benner, a brother, Arthur Heick and a sister, Bernice Porth. Left to cherish her memory are her nieces and nephews: Curtis (Joyce) Tolzin of Cleveland, MN, Keith (Janet) Tolzin of Ellensburg, WA, Kermit (Sandy) Tolzin of Alta, IA and Marla Jean (Bill) Avery of Venice, Florida; other relatives and friends.
