Fern Minnie Wohlers

Fern Minnie Wohlers, the daughter of Ed and Elsie Brandt Meyer, was born May 12, 1920 in Sherburn, MN. Fern grew up on a farm near Sherburn and attended Martin County Country School. On November 29, 1939, Fern married Fred Henry Wohlers in Estherville, Iowa. The early years of their marriage were spent in Minnesota, primarily in the communities of Sherburn, Fairmont, Spencer and Forest City. Fern worked in a dime store in the early years, later she operated her own thrift store along with holding parties selling women's clothing and jewelry. Fred and Fern later moved to Texas and then Minnesota, before returning to Spencer in 1990. In her spare time, Fern enjoyed dancing and going to dances, growing flowers and sewing dresses for her girls and grand girls. Fern passed away on October 4, 2016 at the Hawkeye Care Center in Spirit Lake at the age of 96. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; her daughter, Joan Trostheim; 2 brothers: Lloyd Meyer and Glenn Meyer; 2 sisters: Verna Eickhoff and Donna Hiller. She is survived by her two daughters: Jan Hennings (Ronald) of Hartley, IA and Mary Wilkens (Carey) of Arnolds Park, IA; grandchildren: Robin Berger, Mark Ewoldt, Matthew Ewoldt and Tami Michelson; 17 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; her brother, LeRoy Meyer of Sherburn, MN; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Warner Chapel in Spencer, Iowa.
