Ferne Irene Thorne

September 28, 1910 — December 27, 2008

Ferne Irene Thorne, the daughter of John and Luella Smith Huss, was born September 28, 1910, in Correctionville, Iowa. Ferne received her early education in Correctionville and graduated from the Correctionville High School. Ferne married Frank Stoneking. Following their marriage, they lived in the Primghar. Ferne worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone from 1930 to 1949. On August 6, 1961, Ferne married John Thorne in Spencer, Iowa. Following their marriage, they made their home in Hartley. On December 27, 2008, Ferne passed away at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 98. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Frank Stoneking, her second husband, John Thorne and her step-daughter, Rita Joenks. She is survived by 3 step-children and their spouses: Vance and Ruth Thorne of Spokane, Washington, Barbra and Verlin Rusch of Slater, Iowa and Lynn and Nyle Dotson of Spencer, Iowa; one step-son-in-law, Frank Joenks of Milford, Iowa; 8 step-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

SERVICES

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 11 at 3:00 p.m. at the Correctionville Cemetery in Correctionville, Iowa.
