Florence Mae Selzer

Florence Mae (Winterboer) Selzer, age 85, formerly of Everly, IA, established her angel wings at Hillcrest Shadow Lake nursing home in Papillion, NE, on Sunday, November 12, 2017. Just 10 days short of her 86^th birthday.     

Florence was born November 22, 1931, to Harm & Dena Arends Winterboer, in Dickinson county Iowa. Her childhood years were spent on the family farm north of Every, IA. She attended country school and graduated in 1949 from Everly High School.  

Flo married the love of her life, Carl Frederick Selzer on June 4, 1954 at the First Reformed Church formerly located north of Everly. They began their marriage by working together on the family farm for 21 years.

In 1975 they left the farm and moved west of Everly where Flo turned her passion for cooking into a career, becoming a cook, at the Everly Community School.  Carl and Flo built a beautiful home directly across the street from the School and lived a joyful life.  After retiring from the school system, Flo couldn’t stop her passion for cooking, and worked part time at Pete’s Steakhouse in Hartley, IA.  

Upon Carl’s death in 1999 Florence moved to the Omaha area to be closer to her son and family, where she stayed until her death.

Florence was a dedicated Christian and remained active throughout her life in church work. She loved playing a good card game, while chatting with company.  Family and friends will always remember her love of cooking, but were especially fond of her wonderful baking skills. Flo loved sports, she was passionate about watching her grandchildren, and her loved continued throughout life. You could always find Flo in her chair watching a good ballgame; from baseball to basketball, football to volleyball, and any other sport that was aired.

She was preceded in death by her Parents Harm and Dena, Husband Carl, Son Duane, and Brothers Everett and Herman.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Dennis and wife, Wanda Selzer of Omaha, NE;  granddaughter, Adriana (Andi) & husband Randy Shahan, great-grandchildren: Olivia & Ethan of De Soto, KS; granddaughter, Danielle & husband, Jerrod Matras; great-grandchildren: Kailee, Maxwell, & Macy of Papillion, NE; granddaughter, Elizabeth (Liz) and husband, Jeff Lustgraaf, great-grandchildren: Lillian & Lillie of Elkhorn, NE; grandson, Dustin & wife, Ashley Selzer of Lewisville, NE with a princess great-granddaughter coming December 2017.  Also, daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) and husband, Mark Nagel of El Mirage, AZ; granddaughters: Sarah Lynch-Shaddock of Arlington, MA; Kate Lynch-Aten, Anna Lynch and Lynn Lynch all of Raleigh, NC; and great granddaughter, Josephine Lynch Shaddock of Arlington, MA.
