Frances Catherine Stanzel, the daughter of William and Christine (Momsen) Klindt, was born on February 6, 1928 in Lake View, Iowa. Fran was raised in Lake View where she received her early education and moved to Sioux Rapids her senior year graduating in 1945. After graduation, she started working for the postal service.
On November 23, 1947, Frances married Donald Stanzel on her mother's farm near Sioux Rapids. Following their marriage, Fran continued to work for the postal service and eventually became the postmaster in Rembrandt, IA. Fran also enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her children. Fran and Don moved to Spencer in 1996 and have enjoyed wintering in Arizona for the last 18 years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist where she was involved with the Methodist women. She was also involved in P.E.O. Chapter KF, bridge and social clubs and hospice and hospital auxiliary volunteer. Fran was a devoted wife and mother who loved to spend time with her family.
On June 17, 2008, Fran passed away at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 80. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Harold; her step-father, J. Arthur Johnson and her son-in-law, Richard Hoover.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Don of Spencer, IA; her daughters: Mary Farlow and her husband, Will of West Des Moines, IA, Ann Roth and her husband, Steven of Storm Lake, IA and Susan Mills and her husband, Alan of Sioux Rapids, IA; her son, William Stanzel and Sue of Crofton, NE; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Klindt and Donna Petersen of Monfort, WI; her sister-in-law, Vera Klindt of Sioux Rapids, IA; her step-sister, Ruth Edwards of Fort Dodge, IA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held at 1:30p.m., Friday, June 20, 2008 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
