Frances Laree (Wiese) Montgomery was born December 2, 1934 in Hospers, Iowa to John Harry Wiese and Kathryn Ann (Forst) Wiese, the youngest of four children. She graduated from Northwestern College with a degree in Education, and taught primary school in Harris, Primghar, Newkirk, and Union Consolidated school districts.
On August 15, 1958 she married James Darwin Montgomery. They settled in Spencer and had three children. She found her calling, spending 25 years as a para-educator at Sacred Heart School, in later years leading the computer assisted learning program, giving individualized attention to hundreds of grade-schoolers over the years. Teaching was her passion, and she was honored to be greeted by her former students for years after her retirement. She was a 50 year member of Hope Reformed Church and embodied the virtues of love, faith, and generosity to all those around her. Frances passed away at Longhouse after a four year battle with dementia and kidney disease.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband James, her parents, and two brothers: John and Ronald.
She is survived by her children: Teresa Kanago (Kerwin), Patricia Montgomery, John Montgomery (Christy), her brother James Wiese (Clarice), four grandchildren: Julia Ramsey (Aaron), Meredith Zywno (Cory), Anthony Kanago (Katie), Nicole Mena (Victor), and two great-grandchildren: Nolan Ramsey and Alexander Zywno, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
