Francis Richard Anderson, the son of H.P. Alfred and Ida Esther Rasmussen Anderson, was born March 5, 1923 in Royal, Iowa. He received his education and graduated from the Royal High School in 1940. In 1943, he entered the Navy Air Corp and received his basic training at Farragut, ID. He then transferred to the U.S. Navel Air School in Norman, OK, to become an Aviation Machinist. Francis then went to the U.S. Naval Base in Olathe, KS and then to Cape Canaveral, FL. He was honorable discharged in 1946. Francis then attended Flight School in Estherville and received his Flight Instructors Rating and instructed for many years.
On December 4, 1946, Francis was united in marriage to Nelle Myers in Jackson, MN. In 1952, Francis purchased a grocery store in Royal and ran Andy's Food Market for 32 years and he also drove bus for Clay Central School for 20 years. He was a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Francis passed on September 2, 2009 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 86. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Leona Anderson, his daughter, Barbara Jo, granddaughter, Nichole Lucas and his brother, Leonard Anderson.
Francis is survived by his wife, Nelle of Royal; his daughters: Nancy Anderson of Spirit Lake, IA, Cheryl Lucas and her friend, Rick Burgeson of Royal, Vicki Ficken and her husband, Kent of Sutherland and Terri Gonnerman and her husband, Dennis of Des Moines, IA; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; his brother, Howard Anderson of Hamilton, OH; 3 sisters: Luella Lindt of Kingman, KS, Viola Hagedorn of Spirit Lake, IA and Darlene O'Sullivan of Spencer, IA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, September 4, 2009 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal, Iowa.
