Gary Keith Zahrt, the son of Fred and Rachel Roberts Zahrt, was born on May 22, 1938 in Rossie, IA. He received his education in Rossie graduating from Greenville-Rossie High School in 1955. He then attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA.
Gary entered into the military on December 27, 1956 serving in the United States Marine Corps, including 2 tours in Vietnam. While in the military, Gary received numerous awards and medals and retired on June 30, 1982.
On August 21, 1960, Gary married Marjorie Dirksen in Spencer, IA. Being patriotic, Gary traveled worldwide serving his country and raising six children.
Following the death of his first wife, Gary was united in marriage with Stephanie Walker in Spencer, IA on October 8, 1997. Two children were born during this marriage, Zoe and Zandra. Gary (known to all on the golf course as Z-man) loved a competitive golf game during sun, rain or even snow. He was an avid sportsman and never missed an Iowa Hawkeye basketball game.
Gary passed away on February 13, 2007 at Sanford Health Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, at the age of 68; but going on 22. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and two brothers.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Stephanie; 8 children: Janelle, Jodie, Keith, Cynthia, Tracy, Elaine, Zoe and Zandra; 18 grandchildren: Katie, Tony, Tim, Christopher, Shelby, Charlie, Rachel, Brittany, Ray, Grace, Laci, Nathan, Sarah, Samuel, Josiah, Zachariah, Gage and Riley; 3 sisters: Beverly Jeppeson, Suzanne Edington and Sandra Dotson; 2 brothers: Darwin Zahrt and Roger Zahrt; and many, many friends.
You could not meet a man like Gary and remain unchanged. He had a contagious personality and a love for people that will be sorely missed. We will love him forever.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held 1:30 P.M., Monday, February 19, 2007 at the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9:00 P.M., Sunday, with the family present from 4 to 6:00 P.M., Sunday afternoon at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
