Gary L. Cuttell

Gary Lee Cuttell, the son of Robert McWhirter and Esther June (Groth) Cuttell, was born July 5, 1940 in Spencer, IA. His childhood years were spent on the Cuttell farm, where he received his education, earned his Eagle Scout in 1956 and graduated from Royal High School in 1958. Following high school, he continued his education at Iowa State University, receiving his Agribusiness Degree in 1962. After completing his degree, he began work at Security National Bank in Sioux City. Gary married Barbara Means on March 25, 1967 in Spencer, IA. They moved back to the farm in 1971 and began farming until Garys retirement in 2001. He was a member of the Clay County Pork Producers and served as a trustee for Lincoln Township. Gary was also an active member of his community as 4-H leader, Boy Scout Leader and Clay Central School Board Member, as well as spending many years serving on the Clay County Fair Executive Board as Vice-President and Swine Superintendent. In his spare time, he enjoyed sailing in the Caribbean, boating at the lakes, snowmobiling up north, bird watching, hunting and traveling the country with his wife Barb in their RV. Gary also loved to spend time with his family and friends and enjoyed attending his childrens and grandchildrens sporting events and school activities. Gary Cuttell passed away at St Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN on Saturday May 7, 2011 at the age of 70. He was preceded in death by a son, Scott and his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barb of Spencer; two sons: Brent and Christie Cuttell of Cottage Grove, MN and Greg and Terri Cuttell of Spencer, IA; six grandchildren: Abigail, Myles, Tatum, Camden, Scott and Briar; other relatives and many friends.
