Gertie Dumond, the daughter of Anthony and Sophia Rozeboom Roskam, was born October 6, 1922 in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Rock Rapids, where she received her education.
Gertie continued to live in Rock Rapids and then Alvord until moving to Spencer, Iowa in 1983. She worked in housekeeping at Spencer Hospital until her retirement. She was a faithful member of Hope Reformed Church in Spencer. She truly loved flowers, gardening, cooking, and most of all, spending time with her family.
Gertie passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Dick Roskam and Cornie Roskam and one sister, Gertrude Tietsma.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters: Joy and her husband, Jack Hickman of Forest City, IA and Sophie and her husband, Al Johnson of Spencer; four grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 7 brothers and sisters: Henrietta Van Hill of Alvord, IA, Gerrit and his wife, Emma Roskam of Sioux Center, IA, Elizabeth Vande Wiede of Inwood, IA, Tony and his wife, Bea Roskam of Ankeny, IA, Leonard and his wife, Harriet Roskam of Hudson, SD, Sophie and her husband, John Zomer, Sr. of Larchwood, IA and Hilda and her husband, Jake Van Voorst of Lester, IA; 2 sister-in-law's, Tillie Roskam of Rock Rapids, IA and Muriel Roskam of Hospers, IA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer.
