Gladys 'Birdie' Ilene Tibbetts, the daughter of Clayton and Myrtle (Prentice) Birchard, was born February 3, 1925, in Ayrshire, Iowa. She graduated from Milford High School in 1942. Following graduation, she worked at the Fostoria Bank for four years.
Gladys was united in marriage to Wayne Bodenhamer on November 10, 1946 and to this union, three children were born. Gladys married Howard Tibbetts on January 5, 1980, in Peterson, Iowa. They lived in the Peterson area where she worked at the Peterson State Bank for 11 years. They enjoyed wintering in Mission, Texas, where she volunteered for 15 years. Gladys was a member of the United Methodist Church in Peterson and involved in United Methodist Women and Women's Society of Christian Service. She was also a member of the Ladies Circle, Variety Club and a charter member of Peterson Heritage Club. She enjoyed sewing and craft works, as well as cooking meals and baking for others. Her greatest joy, was her grandchildren.
Gladys passed away at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City, Iowa, on November 18, 2016, at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard, on August 2, 2007; one son, Douglas Bodenhamer on May 8, 2010; two sisters: Madge Warner and Jennie Quee; three brothers: Clarence, Herbert and Dale Birchard.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Karen Collette and husband, Bill of Jefferson, SD, and Greg Bodenhamer and wife, Cheryl of Sioux Falls, SD; daughter-in-law, Sue Bodenhamer of Denver, CO; eight grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Alma 'Tootie' Birchard and Linda Birchard, both of Spencer, IA; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 23, at the United Methodist Church, Peterson, Iowa
