Gladys Luceale Riedemann, the daughter of Robert and Anna (Treanor) Byers was born September 12, 1915, in Harrison Township, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in May City, where she attended country schools.
Following school, Gladys remained at home helping her mother raise her siblings. She then went to work for a family with five children in which she made .75 per week.
Gladys was united in marriage to Milford F. Riedemann on August 30, 1934, in Spencer, Iowa. The couple moved to a farm south of Hartley. They farmed for several years before moving to Hartley where they purchased a Phillips gas station and caf�. In 1953, they moved to Spirit Lake to continue farming. Gladys went to work for Berkley fishing on May 28, 1954. She was a nylon department supervisor for 24 years until her retirement on February 10, 1978. In 1987, Gladys and Milford moved to Spencer.
In her free time Gladys enjoyed crafts and cooking. She was a sports enthusiast who was a loyal Tiger Woods and Dennis Rodman fan. More than anything, Gladys enjoyed being around her large family.
On March 22, 2008, Gladys passed away at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her husband Milford F. Riedemann; her parents; two sisters: Violet Wiedenkamp and Darlene Peterson; and four brothers: Francis, William, Elmer, and Donald Byers.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Ron (Dixie) Riedemann of Green Bay, WI, Rod (Linda) Riedemann of Yukon, OK, and Kathleen Vanderzwaag of Woodland, CA; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Mary Sullivan of Spencer, IA, Lillian Dempsey of Capistrano Beach, CA; as well as other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M, Friday, March 28, 2008 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
