Glen "Skip" Arthur Vanderpool

   Glen (Skip) Arthur Vanderpool, 78, was born July 6, 1945 in Orient, Iowa to Merle J. and Violet E. (Mensing) Vanderpool.  He received his education in Greenfield Community Schools in Greenfield, Iowa.  After his education Skip served in the Iowa Army National Guard from 1964 to 1970.

   Skip married Janet Lynn Thompson at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenfield, IA on July 16, 1966. Shortly after, they moved to Marengo, IA where they lived from 1966 to 1971. Skip and Jan welcomed their daughter, Angela, in 1968 and son, Bret in 1970. Skip worked at Amana Refrigeration as an Inspector. In 1971 they moved to Spencer, IA where Skip worked as a Warehouse Manager at Pixler Electric and learned the electrician trade.  Skip and Jan welcomed son, Brian, in 1974. Skip started his own painting business to support his family where he utilized his carpentry skills.  After several years Skip worked as a truck driver for UPS and retired after serving 23 years.  Skip cherished his family and enjoyed taking his grandchildren on trips to Iowa State/UNI games, Iowa Golden Gloves, Loess Hills and many other destinations. He loved the Clay County Fair and would visit every exhibit, attended most of the events, and enjoyed talking with all the people. He also enjoyed his daily morning trip to Sister’s Café to have coffee and socialize with his many friends. Skip loved to go to church and enjoyed taking the grandkids to church too. He tried to attend all the grandchildren’s school functions and extracurricular events. The great grandchildren brought Skip immense joy in the later stages of his life. He would anxiously anticipate their visits and enjoyed every moment.

   The family would like to give a special thank you to his granddaughter, Casey. She provided care for the final month of his life, enabling him to stay comfortably in his own home.

   Skip passed away peacefully at home on July 11, 2023.  Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 57 years, Janet, children Angela (Lyle) Youngdahl, of Spencer; Bret Vanderpool of Milford and Brian (Lori) Vanderpool of Gillett Grove; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

   Skip is proceeded in death by his parents; brother James; brother Leroy.
