Glenn LeRoy Bechler, the son of Roy and Sabrie (Wilcox) Bechler, was born January 15, 1920 in Rockford, ND. Glenn’s family moved to Iowa when he was 6 and his childhood years were spent around Sac City, where he received his education, graduating from Sac City High School in 1939.
On September 8, 1942, Glenn married Wanita O’Tool in Pomeroy, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived north of Sac City, where Glenn and Wanita farmed. In 1945, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Army Air Force from October 1945 until his agriculture discharge in March of 1946. In 1958, they moved to Royal, Iowa, where he worked as a farmhand for Kathryn & Warren Bauman and Alice & Larry LeClair. Later, Wanita and Glenn worked as church custodians. He later worked as a custodian at Clay Central Community schools for 16 years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church until it’s closure. Glenn was currently a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer.
Glenn passed away at Longhouse Residence in Spencer, IA on Monday, August 9, 2021 at the age of 101. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy & Sabrie; wife, Wanita in 2002; one sister in infancy, Ruth Bechler; three brothers: Merle, Harold and Robert Bechler & a son-in-law, James Weishaar.
Left to cherish his memory are four daughters: Linda (Gary) Gerdes of Weatherford, TX, Patricia Weishaar of Spencer, IA, Pamela (Carl) Struve of Rolfe, IA, Mary (Clark) Abel of Greenville, IA; one son, Gary (Lea) Bechler of Spencer, IA; 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; 4 great-great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
