Glenn Melvin Durst

Glenn Melvin Durst, the son of Balthasar and Helen (Gutknecht) Durst, was born August 10, 1929 in rural Langdon, Iowa. He was raised on a farm outside of Langdon, where he received his education at a country school east of Langdon and later graduating from Lake Center High School in 1947. After his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge. Glenn married Glenda Morfitt on June 15, 1958 in Sanborn, Iowa. Following their marriage they lived in Spencer and Milford finally settling on an acreage near Langdon. He farmed for a number of years during their early marriage and later worked at Spencer Foods and then CD Farm Service, until his retirement. He was a member of the Langdon United Methodist Church for his entire life. Glenn was a kind, loving and generous husband, father and grandfather. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He loved the outdoors and had a great appreciation for wildlife and nature. He enjoyed reading western novels and watching classic movies. His caramel corn had become a popular tradition at the yearly Langdon church auction. He passed away at his home in Langdon on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the age of 84. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Steven; one sister, Edna Hein, four brothers: Harold Gutknecht, Paul, Ervin, and Donald Durst and their wives Ruth, Regina and Eileen. Also Glenda's sister and brother-in-law Mary Jo and Phil Haas. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Glenda of Langdon, IA; one daughter, Pam and her husband, Gary Altenhofen of Spencer, IA; three grandchildren: Aly and Cory of Iowa City, IA, and Blake of Mankato, MN, one brother, Clifford and his wife Ardell of Spencer; three sister-in-laws: Mardella Durst of Spencer, Carol Somers of Binghamton, NY and Diane Burgess of Langely, WA; one brother-in-law, Douglas Morfitt of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer. A military flag presentation will be conducted following the services.

INTERMENT
Fairview Cemetery Langdon, Iowa Privately at a later date. The family would like everyone in attendance at the service to join them at the Grace Methodist Church in the BenTena room for a time of lunch and fellowship.
