Glenn 'Whitey' Roos

October 15, 1928 — March 29, 2015

Glenn Eldon 'Whitey' Roos, the son of Arie D. and Jennie (Oldenkamp) Roos, was born October 15, 1928 in Hospers, IA. His childhood years were spent in the Sioux County, IA area, where he received his education. After his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Navy from 1946 until his honorable discharge in 1948. After his service, he returned to Primghar, IA, where he worked at Seivert's Funeral Home and Furniture Store. Whitey married Shirley Jordan Yont on September 24, 1950 in Sutherland, IA. After their marriage, they made their home in Primghar, where he continued to work at Seivert's which started the Burial Vault Company that Whitey would later purchase and operate from 1953 until his retirement in 1990. He was a past member of the United Methodist Church in Primghar. While in Primghar, Whitey was a member of the Fire Dept., the town council, the VFW, Masonic Lodge, Shrine Scottish Rite and enjoyed bowling league, camping, golfing and spending his winters in Arizona. His wife, Shirley passed away in 1996. He married Janet Ketelsen Norton on April 24, 1999 in Hartley, IA. After their marriage, he moved to Hartley, where he was a current member of Trinity United Church of Christ. Whitey also enjoyed golfing and spending time with friends. Whitey passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley in 1996; his five brothers: Donald (Jack), Robert, Audley, Richard and Wallace & one son-in-law, Dennis Carlson. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janet of Hartley; his children: Jane (Tim) Miller of Nappanee, Indiana, Jeff (Sharon) Roos of Primghar, Judy Coleman of Spencer, IA, Joel (LuAnn) Roos of Spencer, IA; his stepchildren: Linda Norton, Glenda Norton and Jim (Jan) Norton) all of Hartley, IA; 11 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

SERVICES

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley, Iowa.

INTERMENT

Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday following the Luncheon. Pleasant Hill Cemetery Primghar, Iowa A military flag presentatino will be conducted by Chateau-Thierry Post of the Primghar American Legion at the graveside services.
