Gloria VaLois Alger, the daughter of Emlet and Lillian (Albertson) Twito, was born August 28, 1932 in Estherville, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Estherville, where she received her education, graduating from Estherville High School. She continued her education at a Lutheran College in Minneapolis. Gloria then served as the Deputy Recorder for Emmet County for several years.
Gloria married Donald Alger on November 2, 1957 in Estherville. Following their marriage, they spent a few years on a farm near Webb and later moved to Spencer in 1961. Gloria spent many years involved in the Credit Union in management for 22 years. She later went to work for Telco Triad Community Credit Union, where she served as Branch Manager for 10 years, until her retirement in 1998.
Gloria was baptized, confirmed and married in the Estherville Lutheran Church. She was a long-time member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer, where she served on the church council and was the church treasurer. Gloria spent six years as the board director at St. Luke's and served on the SCORE Board of Directors, the advisory board of the credit union and on many other credit union boards.
She passed away on February 16, 2012 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 79. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don in 1998; a daughter, Kathy Jo Alger; a brother, Parnell Twito and a sister, Carmen Hansen.
Left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Corrine Hoogeterp and her husband, Steve of Spencer; one son, Doug Alger and his wife, Carolyn of Spencer; two grandsons: Adam Hoogeterp and fianc�, Sam Hamrick and Andrew Hoogeterp; three great-grandchildren: Craig, Summer and Landen; two sisters: Virginia Knutson and her husband, Gaylord of Minneapolis and LeAnn Paulson and her husband, David all of Minneapolis, MN; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be at 10:30 A.M., Monday, February 20, 2012 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer.
