Grace Alvina Johnson

Grace Alvina Johnson, the daughter of Henry T. and Lilla (Hicks) Hanson, was born April 4, 1924, in Jackson County, MN. Her childhood years were spent in Windom, MN, where she received her education, graduating from Windom High School. Grace married James Wendell Johnson on June 8, 1942, in Lawton, OK. Following their marriage, Wendell entered the military until 1945. They moved to Spencer, IA, in October of 1947, where she raised her son, Bruce and later worked at J.C. Penny Company for 23 years, until her retirement in 1989. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer. She enjoyed sewing in her spare time. Grace passed away at the Ruthven Care Center in Ruthven, IA, on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the age of 90. Grace was preceded in death by her parents; husband Wendell Johnson; four brothers: Tilford, Harlan, Marlyn and Orville; and sister, Evelyn Brink. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Bruce and his wife, Deb of Spencer, IA; two grandchildren: Lonnie "Lon" Johnson and his wife, Mira of Chandler, AZ, and Marci Burgoyne and her husband, John of Chandler, Arizona; 8 great- grandchildren: Skyler, Alexis, Trevor, Brielle, Dan, Gia, Ali and Andy; one sister, Viola Obert of Minneapolis, MN; one sister-in-law, Gladys Hanson of Minneapolis, MN; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will take place 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, April 22, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.

Riverside Cemetery Spencer, Iowa A lunch and time of fellowship will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church following the graveside services.
