Mrs. Hynes, the daughter of J. Chester King and Bessie Gustin King was born April 10, 1911 in a farmhouse south of Dickens, Iowa. She attended country school in Logan Township through the 8th grade and graduated from Spencer High School at the age of 16. After graduating from high school, Grace attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City, Iowa. Following Business College she was employed at the Exchange Savings Bank in Dickens, IA where she worked until it closed because of the depression. She was next employed by the Clay County National Bank until she married. Grace met Harold Hynes at the Methodist Camp Grounds at Lake Okoboji. They married January 17, 1931. During the early years of their marriage they farmed near Dickens, then moved to a farm north of Ruthven in 1939, where they lived until retiring to Spencer in 1981. Mr. Hynes died March 1, 1983.
Grace began taking piano lessons at the age of nine and was a talented pianist. She and husband Harold, who played the banjo, delighted family and friends with their musical renditions. Grace and Harold were avid square dancers. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Spencer, a lifetime member of United Methodist Women, belonged to a church circle and the Memorial Committee. Grace was a member of the YMCA for many years and enjoyed traveling, especially a trip to Hawaii. She enjoyed wintering in Arizona.
She passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at the age of 101. Grace was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; one granddaughter, Sandra Krile; her brother, Cecil King and his wife, Marie; a sister, Dora Hansen and her husband, Edwin and a son-in-law, Donald McQueen.
Left to cherish her memory are three daughters: Ardiss and husband, Ralph Pfeifer of Lincoln, NE, Carol McQueen and Sharon and husband, Robert Krile of Spencer; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; one step great grandson and 5 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Stella and husband, Donald Wilson of Dickens.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
