Gwen Marie Howe, the daughter of John William and Mary Pearl (Rose) Lane, was born September 11, 1929 in Webb, Iowa. She grew up on a farm near Webb where she received her education, graduating from Ayrshire High School in 1947.
Gwen married Gale Howe on September 3, 1949 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. After their marriage, they lived on a farm NE of Marathon, IA for 27 years. Throughout her life, she worked at the grocery store and was a bartender in Marathon for many years. She also worked in different area caf�s until moving to Sibley, IA. They lived in Sibley for 35 years where she worked at a drug store for 4 years. She later moved to Spirit Lake, IA for 13 years and had resided in Spencer until the time of her death. She was an active member of the First Reformed Church in Sibley. Gwen enjoyed bowling where she was a member of two area leagues.
She passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the age of 86. Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Gale in October of 1996; two sisters: Velda Wolff and Helen Brinkley; one sister-in-law, Martha Harold; one brother, Burdette Lane; two sisters-in-law: Alene "Toodie" Reese and Marion Howe and five brothers-in-law: Kenneth Reese, Nyle Howe, Trevor Howe, Earl Wolff and Byron Brinkley.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters: Candi Clark of Spencer and Coni Miller of Anthon, IA; two grandchildren: Griffin and Trenton; two sisters: Erma Westercamp of Newton and Garnet (Robert "Chris") Vierow of Albert City, IA; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Howe of Roland, IA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be 2:00P.M., Friday, September 2, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
Following the service, there will be refreshments served at First Congregational Church in Spencer.
