Harold Bryan was born on January 11, 1940 in the old Hartley Hand Hospital in Hartley, IA, to Carl and Elizabeth (Cecil) Bryan. He lived on the Carl & Rich Kuban farm between Hartley and Everly until May of 1941.
Harold attended Everly Community School and in March of 1954 went on to attend St. Coletta School of Wisconsin. Harold returned home in June of 1955 to help care for his parents. He lived in the Everly city limits until September of 1963 when he moved to Spencer after the death of his father. In 1977 Harold moved to Longhouse Care Center and in 1978 he moved to Northshire.
Harold was a custodian for Sacred Heart Church and School from 1963 until his retirement in 2016. He supported the students, faculty and staff in so many ways over those 53 years. In particular he served in the maintenance department, but primarily as a friend to all he met.
Harold enjoyed making new friends and participating in the many activities offered at Longhouse/Northshire, he always praised the care given at Northshire. He especially enjoyed bingo, bible study, trivia, listening to music, attending church services and writing to organizations. Harold had great stories and could talk to anyone. He enjoyed having the children of Sacred Heart School come over to play bingo. He looked forward to summers to go to the Lakes area and the Clay County Fair. Harold would walk to events all over town no matter the weather. He enjoyed going to the Roller Rink every Friday to watch people skate.
When asked about his motto for life, he put it simply “God’s Will Be Done.” Harold’s youthful outlook and positive attitude were an inspiration to those around him.
Harold passed away on Monday, July 18, 2022 at the age of 82 at the Spencer Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents.
