Harry Albert Sands

Harry Albert Sands, the son of Albert and Frieda Strackbein Sands was born April 23, 1947 in Anthon, IA. His childhood years were spent in the Anthon area where he attended school and graduated from Anthon Oto High School. Harry served as a machinist in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge in 1971, he worked for the Sioux City Foundry as a shell core maker for 32 years. He married Joan Yvonne (Johnson) Stevens on March 27, 1987 in Alta, IA. Harry enjoyed working on cars, fishing, camping, and listening to classic country and barbershop music. He enjoyed watching comedy movies and riding in his old Honda Civic. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Laurens, IA and attended their bible studies. Harry passed away at home on Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at the age of 65. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Irene Sands, and one stepson, Ricky Stevens. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Yvonne of Royal, IA; 5 children, Wayne Stevens of Royal, IA, Lisa (Felipe) Sebastian of South Sioux City, NE, Terry Sands and his fianc� Erin Johnson of Spencer, IA, Jenny (BJ) Dillard of Sioux City, IA, Michael Stevens of Lompoc, CA and his wife Joelynn Stevens of Alta, IA; 9 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Richard (Kay) Sands of Lawton, IA, Harold (Sandy) Sands of Thurston, NE, and George Sands of Tennessee; 2 sisters, Arlene (Lyle) Bald of Aspenwall, IA and Edna Kaupan of Baltic, SD; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will take place 1:30 P.M., Saturday, August 18, at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
