Harvey Vanderveen

Harvey Dean VanderVeen, son of Henry and Nell VanderVeen, was born November 9th, 1942 in Orange City Iowa. He spent his childhood years in Orange City and received his education there. Harv married Karen Hollander February 21st, 1962 in Sheldon, IA. Following their union, they made their home in Orange City and surrounding areas in NW Iowa. They located to Spencer Iowa in 1978. One of the many things they did was foster care and even went on to adopt children during this time. Harv had a 27 year career with the Spencer Community School District as a custodian, along the way he made many friends. During his free time he enjoyed watching sports on TV, during his younger years he enjoyed fishing and ice fishing. His main enjoyment in his life was his children and most important was his grandchildren, they were his pride and joy. Harvey passed away Tuesday April 28th, 2015 at Royal Meadows in Sioux Center, Iowa at the age of 72. He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen in 2014; parents, Henry and Nell Vander Veen; sister, Betty Kiel; brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Karen VanderVeen, and brother-in-law, Gary Hollander. He is survived by his children: Bradley of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Barry of Spencer, Iowa, Brittany Spooner of Spencer, Iowa, and Brady (Lora) of Hospers, Iowa; his 9 grandchildren: Autumn, Kaitlyn, Kiahna, Chloe, Jase, Xena, Brett, Christian and Hailey; brother Marv (Beth), brother-in-law, Arlin Kiel; sister-in-law, Nelda (Dennis) Dickmeyer; sister-in-law, Kathy Egdorf; many nieces, nephews and many friends.
