Harvey William 'Bill' Beams

Harvey William "Bill" Beams, the son of William Henry and Margaret (Austin) Beams, was born March 27, 1926 in Lake Center Township in Clay County, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Dickens, where he received his education through the 7th grade. His family moved to Spencer, where he completed his education, graduating from Spencer High School. After his schooling, Bill entered the military and served with the U.S. Army Corp. from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946. Bill married RoseMary Hansen on July 28, 1945 in Albany, Georgia. Following their marriage, they continued to live in Spencer, where he was a crawler driver and later shop foreman for Clay County. Bill later was named Superintendent of Secondary Roads in Clay County for 44 years until his retirement in February of 1990. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. He was also a member of the American Legion in Spencer. He passed away at his home in Spencer on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the age of 89. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosemary; a daughter, Pamela; his son, Michael and three sisters: Lila Metier, Maxine Gustin and Lilly Johnson. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Penny Jean and her husband, Thomas Schuchhardt of Spencer; a daughter-in-law, Tess Beams of Chandler, AZ; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister, Elaine (LeRoy) Spears of Spencer; other relatives and friends.
