Hazel Lucille (Robbins) MacTaggart, the daughter of Ervin and Mattie (Northrup) Robbins was born on December 17, 1931, in Ralston, OK. She lived out her childhood in Ignacio, CO along with 7 brothers, Rocky, Bill, Les, Ernie, George, Bob and Dick, and 1 sister, Elsie. She worked at the Western Steakhouse, in Durango, Co, waiting tables for several years.
Hazel started dating Bruce MacTaggart in Farmington, NM in 1962 and they were later united in marriage. They moved to Spencer, Iowa in 1964 and she worked several years at the A&M Laundry. In 1972 they moved to Salida, Co. where she started cooking at the Poncha Truck Stop. She moved back to Iowa in 1985 after the death of her husband. In June of 2002 she moved to St. Luke's Nursing Home and soon adopted the employees as her family. This is where she spent her remaining days.
Hazel loved spending time with her kids and grand children and loved playing cards and games with anyone who was willing. Camping and fishing in the mountains of Colorado was one of her favorite pass time. She spent many of her retirement years crocheting and embroidering gifts for all her family and friends.
Hazel loved to cook and she made a terrific mayonnaise cake. In her early years she was a member of the Eagles Club, and liked to help with the Friday night steak fries.
As the grandchildren started coming she would baby sit and loved to keep them playing games.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 5 brothers, 1 sister, and 3 sons, Roland Norris (infant), Jim Norris, and Frank Jones.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Gene (Kathy) Norris of Durango, CO; Linda (Fred) Perea of Spencer, IA; Cindy Jones (daughter-in-law) Glenville, MN; 2 brothers Bob Robbins and Dick Robbins; 13 grand children, 25 great-grand children, and 4 great-great-grandchildren and extended family and friends.
