Helen B. Dean

Helen B. Dean, daughter of Myron J. and Clara (Paddock) Stanton, was born June 29, 1927 in Spencer, IA. She was a third generation Spencerite, graduating from Spencer High School in 1945. Helen married Gerald W. "Jerry" Dean, August 22, 1948, in the First Baptist Church, Spencer, IA. She continued her position as an operator with Northwest Bell Telephone Company for five years and was then employed at Hy-Line Hatchery for fifteen years. Helen helped with the operation of the Dean's Meat & Rat Bait business until retirement in 2003. Helen and Jerry enjoyed camping and square dancing with their many friends. They were charter members of the square dance club, Spencer Squares, and National Square Dance Camper's Association. Helen was a 50-year member of VFW Auxiliary and a 48-year volunteer for the Avenue of Flags. She enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting and traveling with Jerry. Helen passed away at Spencer Hospital on August 21, 2012 at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jerry, and sister, Marian Clark. Left to cherish her loving memory is her children: Rick and Nancy Dean of Spencer, Barbara Dean of Spencer, Bob and Charlotte Dean of Logan, IA. Other family members include her grandchildren: Melissa Stover and fianc� Alan Girard, Kellie and Matt Lowe, Mike and Heather Dean, Eric and Beth Dean, Joseph Dean and fianc� Autumn Roberson, Angie and Nick Isaia, Kathy Washington, and her great grandchildren: Kaleb and Kevin Stover, Matayah and Kendra Lowe, Ethan Dean, Brayden Dean, Grant Dean, Zackary, Michaela, Triston, Nykoia, Cheyenne and Alexandria Isaia, Terrance, Jazlyn and Nathaniel Bankston; beloved niece and nephew, Suzanne Clark (Cliff Harbour) of Laramie, Wyoming, and Merrill (Irene) Clark of Yuma, Arizona.
