Helene Wegner

Helene Evelyn Wegner, the daughter of Art and Veronica (Mischak) Weber, was born December 17, 1941, in Waterloo, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Gilbertville, Iowa where she received her education, graduating from Don Bosco High School. Following high school, she worked at a locker for one year. Helene married Larry Wegner on February 6, 1960, in Gilbertville. After their marriage, they moved to Oelwein, Iowa, where she worked for the Chicago Great Western Railroad. In 1970, they moved to Ft. Dodge, Iowa, at which time she was a bookkeeper for her husband. She also sold crafts out of her home and enjoyed working with stained glass. In 1988, Helene and Larry moved to Spencer, Iowa. She obtained her real estate license and worked for Spencer Realty for 26 years until her retirement. Helene obtained her CRS and GRI designations throughout those years, and was frequently recognized as top sales agent. She loved to travel, especially her annual trips to Arizona, raise flowers in her garden and cherished time with her grandchildren. In her spare time, Helene enjoyed decorating their home and shopping, especially for shoes. Through the years, Helene and Larry made many great friends in the communities they lived in. Helene passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 25, 2014, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, at the age of 73. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Geraldine. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Larry of Spencer; three sons: Brett of Knoxville, IA, Brian (Barb Sander) of Muscatine, IA, and Craig (Kris) of Sergeant Bluff, IA; grandchildren: Amanda (Will) Condon, Austin Wegner, Noah Wegner, Allison Wegner, Madison Wegner and Olivia Wegner; one great-grandchild, Layne Condon; two brothers: Kenneth (Eleanor) Weber of Jesup, IA, and Wayne (LaVonne) Weber of Washburn, IA; one sister, Donna Mae (Mike) Fettkether of Dunkerton, IA; other relatives and many, many friends.
