Henry Meyer

September 26, 1939 — May 12, 2017

Henry Cornelius Meyer, the son of Roelf and Juerdine (Tammeus) Meyer was born on September 26, 1939 on a farm near Fulda, MN. It was there where he spent his childhood years. Later the family moved to a farm by Chandler, MN. Henry graduated from Chandler High School in 1957. For a few years, Henry stayed to help his dad on the farm after graduating from high school. Henry married Marlys Miller on July 15, 1961 in Reading, MN. To this union was born one son, Daniel. Following their marriage, they moved to Slayton, MN where Henry worked with his brother-in-law, Harold Yotter, in his full service station. IN 1967, Henry and Marlys moved to Sanborn where he was employed by Skelgas. Henry had a chance to move to Spencer and live his dream of operating his own full service station, South 66. Sadly during this time, Marlys passed away very suddenly. It was here that Henry built many longtime customers and friends. Everyone that knew Henry appreciated the friendships that were formed while in business. He always considered it a privilege to serve the many people of Spencer. Henry and Jill Lyster were married at Bethany Lutheran Church on April 25, 1981. Henry was active at Bethany Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and served on the church council. He was a former member of the Clay County Snowmobile Club. Henry loved people. He was a quiet, gentle man with a smile everyone will remember. His happiest times were with his family, especially enjoying our trips to Montana to visit our son and his family and going to Flathead Lake. He also enjoyed fishing trips to Canada, going with his dear friends, Dave and Alice Wagner, to Cass Lake and our winters spent in Lake Havasu, AZ. Henry passed away after a courageous battle with ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome) on May 12, 2017 at his home in Spencer. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marlys in 1980; five sisters and two brothers. Henry is survived by his wife, Jill of Spencer; his son, Daniel and wife, Amber and his precious granddaughters: Jillian Jayne and Kizzie Tatum all of Missoula, MT; one sister, Sophie Stoterau of Jeffers, MN; nieces and nephews; a special dear friend, Alice Wagner; other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank the Spencer Hospital Hospice for all of the loving care they gave Henry over the last two weeks. Henry's wish was to come home and they made that possible. Without their care we could have never made this happen. You are truly God's Angels! The family requests that instead of flowers they would like to PLEASE have friends and family donate to the Spencer Hospital Hospice or the Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer.
