Ida Emma Krumm

Ida Emma Krumm, the daughter of Melvin and Rose Piehl Saxby, was born April 9, 1921 in Brookings County, near Arlington, South Dakota. Her childhood years were spent in the Peterson, Iowa area where she received her education, graduating from Peterson High School in 1940. Following graduation she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Cherokee, Iowa for twelve years. Ida married Orville H. Krumm on June 25, 1946 in Cherokee, Iowa. Following their marriage they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where they lived for a short time before moving to Spencer, Iowa. Initially, Ida was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church of Spencer until she transferred membership to the First English Lutheran Church. Following the death of her husband, she worked for the next twenty- four years at the Hotel in Spencer until her retirement in 2006. She was also a member of Spencer's Business Professional Women organization and was presented the Women of The Year Award in 1995. In her spare time she enjoyed serving her church and cooking. Ida passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer on Thursday, February 21, 2008, at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orville; two sisters: Alnora and Velma; and two brothers: Steve and Raymond. Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Vera Saxby of Spencer; one brother, Orville Saxby of Cherokee, IA; three daughters: Sandy Zinn of Albuquerque, NM, Judy Christensen of Estherville, IA, Susan Depew of Tucson, AZ; two sons: Fred Krumm of Beaufort, SC, Bill Krumm of Tucson, AZ; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
