Ilene Faith Crew

Ilene Crew, the daughter of Lizzie and Caleb Jones, was born December 29, 1913 in Ayrshire, Iowa. She received her early education in a country school and graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1931. In October of 1934, Ilene was married to Eldon Crew. To this union, two children were born. Ilene enjoyed life on the farm and loved to be outside on the tractor working in the fields, with the farm animals, and keeping the lawn and farmyard freshly mown. In addition to her children, Roger and Sandra, it was her great joy to welcome five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren into her life. Ilene dearly loved her family, friends, and neighbors, and loved visits from them. She loved to help with her grandchildren and enjoyed sewing clothes for them when they were little. One of the highlights of her life was flying to California with family and visiting the beach and Disneyland. In the fall of 1988, Ilene transitioned to "city life" and enjoyed her new home and neighbors in Spencer for 23 years before moving to Northshire Nursing Home in 2011. She passed away there on February 24, at the age of 99. Ilene was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Welcome (Berniece) Jones and Burnell (Elsie) Jones; a sister, Pearl Jones, and her daughter, Sandra Oliphant. She is survived by her son, Roger (Elaine) Crew of Spencer, IA; her son-in-law, Gary (Brenda) Oliphant of Urbandale, IA; five grandchildren: Valerie (Bill) Tulip of Panama City, FL, Jeff (Renae) Brobst of Papillion, NE, Kellie Burns of Spencer, Jenifer (Paul) Berge of Ames, IA, and Steve (Jenny) Crew of Lawton, IA; 11 great grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.
