Ione Marie Mathison

Ione Marie Mathison, the daughter of Joe and Mabel Stitz, was born September 17, 1921 in Sioux Rapids, IA. Her family moved to Spencer, IA when Ione was four years old, where she received her education, graduating from Spencer High School in 1939. Ione married Edward Kenneth Mathison on January 31, 1940 in Jackson, MN. Following their marriage, they continued to live in Spencer, where Ione and Eddie owned and operated Club 71 for 17 years and later owned and operated Mathison's Lounge for an additional 19 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star, the Eagle's Club and was also involved in League Bowling for many years, as well as an avid golfer. Her summers were spent and enjoyed with many friends at her Lost Island lake home in Ruthven, IA. Ione passed away at her daughter-in-law's home in West Des Moines, IA on Monday, February 15, 2010 at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward on August 17, 1984 and her son, Steve in 2001. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter-in-law, Sue Mathison of West Des Moines, IA; one grandson, Jay (Patty) Mathison; great grandchildren, Carter and Amanda of Oswego, IL, her constant companion, "Cuddles" and many other relatives friends.
