Irene Augusta Philiph

Irene A. Philiph, the daughter of Hans William and Lizzie T. Holle Eden, was born July 13, 1918 in May City, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in May City, where she received her education. Irene married Richard Philiph on December 4, 1938 in Ocheyedan, Iowa. Throughout their marriage, they made their home on the farm where Richard was born, and where they farmed for 45 years, until their retirement in 1975. They moved to Hartley in 1993. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the St. John's Ladies Aid. Irene passed away at the Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD on Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at the age of 87. Her parents; her husband, Richard on November 15, 1994; one son, Ronald and one grandson, Douglas Sampson, preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands: Glenda and Dr. Darrel Sampson of Prophetstown, Illinois and Joan and David Stensland of Ames, Iowa; one son and his wife, Kenneth & Dolores Philiph of New Lenox, Illinois; a daughter-in-law, Anna Philiph of Urbana, Illinois; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
