Irene Hugunin

Irene Janet Hugunin, the daughter of James and Gertrude (Thoreson) Cory was born on December 14, 1929 in Ruthven, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Ruthven and Northern Minnesota, where she graduated from Akley, MN in 1947. Irene married Kay Hugunin on November 24, 1947. Following their marriage they farmed in the Spencer, IA area and moved to Spencer in 1959. She worked many years at St. Lukes Nursing Home. After retirement she volunteered at the Spencer Senior Center, until her death. Irene enjoyed cooking and being with her family and visiting with her friends at the Center and at home. Irene passed away at the Spencer Hospital on August 26, 2014 at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Gene Cory. She is survived by one daughter, Margie Killmer and her friend Warren Meler of Spencer, IA; one son Clay (Kim) of Dickins, IA; 2 grandsons, Chad Hugunin of Burnsville, MN and Brad Killmer (Nicole) of Spencer, IA; 5 great-grandchildren, Saddie, Alec, Ayrial, Karlee, and Summer; 2 sisters, Gloria (Jerry) Bixby of Walker, MN and Joyce (Derold) Ross of Three Forks, MT; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will take place 10:30 A.M., Friday, August 29, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
