V. Irene Mallett, the daughter of Marvin and Orvilla (Prather) Schenatzki, was born November 27, 1920 in Ayrshire, Iowa. She was baptized in the Methodist faith. Her childhood years were spent in the Ayrshire, Iowa area. She attended school in Curlew and Truesdale.
She was united in marriage to Francis Kaufman in Storm Lake. To this union were born 4 children: Nancy, LeRoy, Jerry & Randy. After their marriage, they lived in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, where she worked for USDA. In 1965, Irene moved to Spencer, where she worked in Lamplighter Hotel office and in the Spencer Hospital cafeteria. Irene was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority and the BPW. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards and often hosted bus trips to nearby casinos. Irene also helped with the DARE program and helped with the physically challenged horse riding program.
Irene passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa on Monday, February 20, 2012 at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents: Marvin and Orvilla Schenatzki; one brother, Rodney Schenatzki; two sisters: Cleota and Illa May and two sons: Randy Roy and Jerry Lee Kaufman.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy (Jim) Breffle of Spencer; one son, Leroy (Linda) Kaufman of Gilmore City, IA; one brother, Edward (Marge) Schenatzki of Pelican Rapids, MN; one sister, Verlie (Everett) Amis of Greenville, IA; three grandchildren: Kathryn Smith, Bryan and Ron Breffle; five great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Irene had a long and happy life. She will be missed very much.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
