Iva Gertrude Hansen, the daughter of Lawrence and Adah Simington Jones, was born January 29, 1915, in Clay County, IA. Her childhood years were spent in the Dickens area where she received her early education.
Iva married Edgar Hansen on December 6, 1936, in Lakefield, MN. Throughout their married life, they lived in the communities of Dickens, Ruthven and Ayrshire. After the death of Edgar, Iva moved to Spencer. She worked as a school hot lunch cook for 12 years, did babysitting for several families, and served as a Sunday school teacher at the Ruthven and Ayrshire Methodist churches. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. Iva loved gardening, embroidering, cooking, dancing, and spending time with her family.
She passed away at the Ruthven Care Center in Ruthven, IA, on Sunday, November 29, 2009, at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edgar on April 20, 1966; one brother, Milton "Bill" Jones; and five sisters: Almeda Smith, Loree Stulen, Elva Alger, Louise Vestrem and Elsie Flack.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Mary (Gary) Masters, Susan (Allen) Masters all of Spencer, IA, Betty (Jerry) Brennan of Emmetsburg, IA, Pete Hansen of Storm Lake, IA, Molly Hansen of Oklahoma City, OK, Paul (Pam) Hansen of Boone, IA, and Louis (Dawn) Hansen of Warsaw, MO; 14 grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M., Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
