Jack Dean Krusenstjerna

     Jack Dean Krusenstjerna the son of Russell and Bertha (Clampitt) Krusenstjerna, was born on March 16, 1920 in Battle Creek, Iowa. Jack grew up in Odebolt and attended school there until 1936 when the family moved to Sioux City, IA, where he attended Central High School. They then moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where he graduated from Washington High School.

     Jack served his country and entered into the U.S. Army in September of 1941. He served with the 337 Battalion as an engineer and bandsman in Africa, Sicily, Anzio, France and Germany. In his service he received 5 Campaign Ribbons, the Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service in direct support of combat operations. He was honorably discharged in September of 1946.

When Jack returned from the war, he attended Morningside College, where he met Phyllis J. Snyder. They were married on June 8th 1947 in Storm Lake, IA by her father Rev. James T. Snyder. Jack graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1950.

     Jack spent many years in sales work with Bankers Life Company (now Principal Financial) and went on to own K Services, his own Real Estate and Insurance Company in Spencer, IA. He and Phyllis raised their family and was an active member of the Grace United Methodist and the community. During these years Jack continued his love for music as a professional arranger, conductor and Trumpeter. He formed his own K -Orchestra of which he arranged numerous back-up music for well-known entertainers on tour, to playing with numerous well-known dance bands throughout the Midwest.

     Jack and Phyllis moved to Odebolt, IA in 1990 where he continued his professional music work until 1997.

     Jack and Phyllis wintered many years in Arizona area where they eventually moved permanently to Sun City, AZ. He was an active member of the Congregational Church and a member of many Sun City bands where he continued to play his trumpet and do arrangement work.

     In August of 2018 Jack and Phyllis moved to Keelson Harbour assisted living in Spirit Lake, IA, to enjoy being closer to family. He enjoyed playing cribbage, bingo and doing word searches and crosswords.

     Jack passed away on Tuesday, August 20th 2019, at the age of 99. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Barbara and one sister, Dorothy Benson.

     Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 72 years Phyllis, his daughters: Christine White and her husband, David of Wetumpka, AL, Susan Brennen and her husband, Billy of Spencer, IA and Mary Monthei and her husband, Kelly of Worthington, MN; his grandchildren: Jean Monthei of Mankato, MN, Kristen (Monthei) Bryant and her husband, Joshua of Mankato, MN, Matthew, Amanda, and Jackson Durst of Spencer, IA; his great grandchildren: Jacob Bryant, Eva Kruger and Jack Bryant all of Mankato, MN; other relatives and friends.

SERVICES
Private Services will be held at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has ben established in his name.
