Jack Francis Crabtree, the son of Floyd Harold and Helena (Fessenden) Crabtree, was born July 10, 1923 in Mason City, IA. His childhood years were spent in Mason City, where he received his education, graduating from Mason City High School. Following his schooling, he entered the military and served his country during WWII.
Jack married Shirley Nicholi on August 4, 1946 in Mason City, IA. Following their marriage, they lived in the communities of Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Mason City and Clear Lake, IA before moving to Spencer, Iowa. He worked as a manager of the Clean Towel Service for 25 years, until his retirement October of 1972. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Spencer. Jack was a member of the Glen Pedersen Post #1 - American Legion of Spencer, the Spencer Saddle Club and was active in scouting, serving as scoutmaster for his son's boy scout troop for 12 years. In his spare time he loved to ride horses.
He passed away at his residence at Beehive Homes on Sunday, September 1, 2013. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Shirley on December 4, 2011 and one sister, Florence Hickling.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: James Crabtree and his wife, Joyce of Humboldt, IA, Jerry Crabtree and his wife, Suzanne of Spencer, Judy Carpenter and her husband, Dennis of Lampe, MO and Jane Youde of Hiawatha, KS; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 5, 2013 at the First Congregational Church in Spencer.
Military services will be conducted by Glen Pedersen Post #1 - American Legion of Spencer, Iowa following the graveside services.
